Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft-Security-EssentialsMicrosoft Security Essentials (MSE) is an antivirus software created by Microsoft that provides protection against viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans for Windows operating systems and is free of charge to customers with legal, validated copies of Windows.

MSE is a security suite designed for consumers, based on the Forefront Client Security desktop agent.  Before installation, MSE checks for the validity of the Windows.  MSE requires no registration or personal information.  MSE will disable Windows Defender, as it provides protection against malware, not limited to spyware and adware.  Updates are published three times a day to Microsoft Update.  Using default settings, archived files are decompressed, and then scanned.  Gile downloads and email attachments are also scanned.  Its Dynamic Signature Service attempts to better identify malicious files by checking for updates if an application exhibits suspicious behavior.  Before taking action against a suspect file, MSE prompts for user input.  If no response is received in ten minutes, then the suspected malware is handled according to its default action, letting MSE determine what to do witht the malware.  System Restore points are created before removing found malware.

The largest advantage MSE has over most the other AV products o nthe market is the small resource requirements it has.  Microsoft Security Essentials is designed to run quietly in the background alerting users only when there is an action for them to take. It also limits CPU and memory usage, resulting in less impact on the tasks consumers perform every day such as opening documents or browser windows or loading search results, even on older or less powerful PCs. Microsoft Security Essentials uses real-time protection to help prevent PCs from becoming infected, and it is the first Microsoft security product to make use of the company’s new Dynamic Signature Service, a technology that helps ensure users stay protected by the most current virus definitions available without having to wait for the next scheduled download.

Windows Live One Care has worked great for me and its from Microsoft so MSE should be just as good or better because Microsoft will work the best with its own OS….Makes sense to me…..
